At the recent ILS Board of Directors meeting in Eindhoven in September 2016, Rob Phillips has been appointed to the ILS Sport Commission. He is one of 15 people from all over the world, who will help to shape the sport of lifesaving at the world level over the next four years until September 2020.
During this time, it is expected that ILS will be developing a case for inclusion into the main Olympic Programme in the future. The format and structure of future Lifesaving World Championships, and the rules that govern them worldwide will also be key topics for discussion, and Rob’s experience in lifesaving sport will be invaluable. He joins a highly experienced group of colleagues from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States, Canada, Japan, Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Egypt and Iran.
The first meeting of the new ILS Sport Commission will take place in Malaga, Spain in mid-February 2017.
John Martin has been reappointed to the ILS Business Commission, and will remain as the Chair of the ILS Bid and Oversight Committee that manages the bid process for all Lifesaving World Championships and ILS World Conferences on Drowning Prevention, and as Chair of the ILS Membership Committee. he has also retained his position on the ILS Board of Directors that he has held since 1994. John is also currently the ILSE Vice President for the western region of Europe.
Also, Adrian Mayhew has been reappointed to the ILS Rescue Commission, following his first spell from 2012 to 2016.
